Overcoming INSOMNIA

Insomnia plagues far too many people. Our modern world is filled with too much stimuli and not enough downtime. Stimulants, depressants and other mood altering agents affect our mind's natural ability to process and release information. Consequently, more and more people have trouble sleeping.

If you suffer from insomnia you know how frustrating it is to go to bed, wishing for a good night's sleep, only to lay awake for hours, tossing and turning, becoming more and more anxious about the sleep you're not getting.

Perhaps you fall asleep quite easily, only to awaken in the middle of the night unable to get back to sleep. Either way, you feel tired, emotional, irrational and not able to function at your best.

Most people have had problems getting to sleep at some time or another, usually because of worries or concerns. A major work presentation, an interview, sleeping in a new or unfamiliar surroundings. If you suffer from a sleep problems that affects your everyday life, talk to your G.P to rule out any underlying physical reasons. Barring any physical reasons that prevent you from sleeping, hypnotherapy and hypnosis can help.

One of the reasons that hypnotherapy and hypnosis can help with insomnia and sleep problems, is that many of these problems come from unresolved thoughts left over from the day.

Hypnotherapy and hypnosis can be useful in overcoming sleep problems in several ways. One way, is to break the pattern of hyper-thinking at bed-time. This is important because falling to sleep naturally is not a conscious act. Our unconscious mind is responsible for knowing how to sleep.

Habitual insomniacs often face sleep problems because their subconscious minds retain stored memories about sleep. Attempting to force yourself to sleep only exacerbates the underlying problem. Using hypnosis, a qualified hypnotherapist can help you to replace the negative sleep patterns and associations with insomnia with an experience of quality, restful sleep so that you can begin to sleep soundly.

Hypnotherapy and hypnosis can also help you to relax and let go of distracting thoughts. As you learn the cues for sleep and develop positive associations you will begin to create a new habit that can break the pattern of consciously trying to sleep.
