Weight Management - II
In one of my previous articles, I discussed how therapy and hypnosis come together to solve issues like excessive weight. The blending of these two disciplines is hypnotherapy. Your response to the notion that some of the negative or false images that we have in our conscious and subconscious mind that keep us from achieving our desired result was overwhelming. Many of you asked that I tell you more about how you might be sabotaging your own success.Let me start with another example. A lady walked into my office asking for help to lose weight. By the way, it’s not just ladies who walk into my office seeking to lose weight. This is an issue that affects both men and women equally.
Once again this situation seemed simple enough on the surface. All she needed to do was diet and exercise. But as with so many of us, there was more. She was a beautiful lady with a very outgoing personality. She was funny and sweet and very likeable. I found myself very drawn to her. She had a magnetic personality. She seemed very intelligent and I suspect that her logical mind knew the fact that if she wanted to lose weight she should eat a little less and exercise a little more.
But like always there was more. As I probed into her life, she began to talk about her husband. It was obvious that she loved him very much. It appeared that he loved her too. He was also overweight. She described him as more of an introvert. But the more she painted the picture of her husband, it becameobvious that he was very insecure and was a bit threatened by the fact that she might lose weight.
Why, you might ask? It turned out that he was threatened by the idea of her losing weight. He feared that if she lost weight she would naturally attract more attention because she was so lovely. Translation: he feared that other men would find her attractive and that she would leave him for another man.
She loved her husband and this was the furthest thing from her mind (conscious or subconscious). Interestingly, she picked up on his anxiety and feared his rejection if she lost weight.
Do you see the strange combination of forces working against her. She didn’t want him to feel bad and he didn’t really want her to lose weight because of his fear and insecurity. Consequentially, everytime she tried a diet or a new exercise program, she failed. Of course, unless her husband came in, there was nothing I could do about his concerns. To help her I used positive suggestions under hypnosis to speed up the process of her healing.
Very shortly after we had finished our sessions, she was well on her way to achieving her success.
Remember, a qualified hypnotherapist won't determine your healthy weight or optimal dress or pant size size. Our job is to find the road blocks and help you to remove anything that gets in the way of your success. You define your results and I'm here to help you remove the negative internal and external influences that prevent you from achieving your goal. Together we'll recruit your subconsoius mind to resolve the conflict so you win.
